I recall heated mockery on the real FF about him

I was not a participant.

There are many things to not like about Johnny, but one must admit he has had a remarkably long and successful career at or very near to top of the charts in France. He produced many hits in many different music styles, his adaptability being probably the reason he was in touch with about all generations for so long.

The dreaded Übermod, the tyrannical Simple, liked Johnny Halliday.

Which a far more scathing indictment than anything I could say.

The only instrument Johnny managed to produce nice sounds with was...

... his legendary boite à coucou.

The bugman has no internal life. Soul searching is a non-existent concept to them. Their "feelings" are only real when affirmed and re-broadcast by others in the hivemind.

The Carbon Footprint of the funeral of Jonny is very bad !

(Sorry in French !)

The report !
